Awarded a Scholarship in recognition of their academic abilities, students in each year undertake a range of additional activities, supported by teaching staff, with a focus on expanding and extending their achievements.
Inspiring role models: Black History Month
Working to eliminate injustice is one of the core values that sit at the heart of a St Mary's education. In 2021, Black History Month launched a campaign led by our dynamic Art Department to raise awareness of using art to understand and appreciate diverse cultures, ethnicities and experiences. Senior School and Sixth Form students were invited to join a role model competition by entering a 2-D portrait of an individual from a black or minority ethnic background, whom they find inspiring.
Here is a selection of the brilliant entries, including the winning submission, a portrait of Billie Holiday by Isla T. in Year 9. Runners up were Scholars Cristina H.-P. with a canvas of Malala Yousafzai and a digital artwork of Rosa Parks created by Ziren S.
