A Level Photography students’ work shortlisted in Norwich University of The Arts’ Beyond the Frame Photography Competition

Each year the esteemed Norwich University of the Arts (NUA) runs the national Beyond the Frame photographic competition. As this year’s theme was ‘Curiosity’, the NUA asked young photographers to use photographic media to interpret and portray what it is to be curious. While the NUA received thousands of entries, judged by four professional artists and photographers, two St Mary’s A Level photography students placed three works on the shortlist of 64 photos, which can be seen here. We are delighted to announce that Masha I. has had one piece of work shortlisted and Daria S. has placed two on the list. We are looking forward to the announcement of the overall winner later this month.

Daria said,

‘I’m always keen to enter such competitions as not only does it help me with understand how to work to a brief, but it drives me to be competitive and try to succeed. It was a great opportunity to share my photographic work with a wider community and get my name out there for my future creative career development.’

Masha agreed, 'I was pleased to see my work had been shortlisted in such a prestigious photographic competition. It is also exciting to see what peers from other institutions are creating.’

Ms Dutton, Photography Teacher, said, ‘Working with Norwich University of the Arts is always of huge benefits to our students, through this competition and the university applications workshop. This allows them to have exposure to the next steps in creative careers and develop their own practice.’

Ms Conroy Head of Art and Ms Dutton ‘encourage and assist students in entering such prestigious competitions as it helps drive their competitiveness and creativity. At a time when we in education need to consider ways in which to bolster healthy resilience such competitions can inspire confidence and assurance.’
