Year 10 develop their financial acumen with the Bright Futures Business Workshop

Year 10 develop their financial acumen with the Bright Futures Business Workshop

As part of our extensive Careers and Future Skills Programme, Bright Futures Ltd were once again invited into school this term to give a Business, Employability and Financial workshop, this time for Year 10 students. The event focused on developing employability skills, entrepreneurial abilities, and financial acumen.

Steve from Bright Futures was delighted with the day and said:

“St Mary’s students surpassed all expectations as they enthusiastically participated in activities such as CV exploration, understanding desirable attributes, money management, public speaking exercises, business planning, and even risk-taking within an entrepreneurial context.

One of the teams was sensational, winning the money box activity with the highest score we have ever seen amongst hundreds of schools we deliver to.”

The students found this a beneficial and an enjoyable experience, with 96% of their feedback indicating that they had learned a lot more about skills needed in the workplace.

In summing up their experience, Year 10 said:

•    The workshop was fun, and it taught us skills about work.
•    It helped us to learn about loans and CVs and employability skills.
•    We were learning how to handle money and job interviews.
•    We developed business skills
•    We liked learning about CVs and the requirements for certain jobs. It was interesting to learn the CVs being processed tends to be done with technology/robots. (ATS)
•     It was very informative and interesting, with lots of collaborative exercises.

Year 10 students will have the opportunity to build and further develop their careers, employability, and future skills with our Year 11 Employability Workshop in September when local employers come into St Mary’s to share their expertise and help prepare the students for their next steps.
