Junior School Stem Lab wins second award!

St Mary's state-of-the-art STEM Lab, which opened at the Junior School in 2022, has won first place in its category at the Greater Cambridge Design and Construction Awards 2024. It was top of its category for Best Conservation, Alteration or Extension under £2m construction costs.

This is the second award for the building, which started life in the 1970s as a greenhouse, before being used as a wind tunnel testing facility by the research arm of the Department of Architecture, Cambridge University.

It was first recognised in the national AJ Retrofit Awards only last year, celebrating the design expertise behind renewing and repurposing of existing buildings.

Olivia Buchanan, Head of the Junior School, said:

"This marvellous recognition is a testament to our commitment to fostering innovation and excellence in education. Our cutting-edge facility empowers young girls to engage with and enjoy STEM lessons, including computer programming, paving the way for a future brimming with limitless possibilities."
